THE MALATESTIAN CASTLE

The old fortress, incredible and visible from every places of the valley under Mondaino, it’s a big architecture of the fourteenth century. An anscient mail of Pope Sisto IV states that the construction is made by the mondaines. The following architectural changes were made in the malatestian age. Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta built 13 towers and the surrounding wall and lots of undergound passages. These passages were used for possible emergencies, and they were discovered only in 1987.\r\nToday you can visit the picture of the fifteenth century “La Madonna del Latte” by Bernardino Dolci and the paleontological museum of Mondaino. The semicircular portico it’s a typical neoclassical architecture and it’s one of the most interesting things that make memorable Piazza Maggiore square. Thanks by its fantastic acoustic, this square is ideal for concerts and theatre shows. Every summer many important singer and actors plays in Piazza Maggiore. Of course every great show of the Palio Del Daino take place in this lovely square.

 

PALEONTOLOGICAL MUSEUM

It was created into the castle in 1981, and it shows lots of fossils found in the area of Mondaino. The fossils are dating from the late Miocene age, about five years ago. They’re famous for the variety of fishes, belonging to 21 different species, and rare remains of birds. The didactic provides, with panels and plastic, a wealth of local paleontolocial relationship with the geological history of the region, and explains the phenomenon of fossilization and illustrates the evolution of fishes. In the museum the visitors know the story and the earth changing of Romagna. The hundreds of fossils, called Tripoli, printed on brittle layers of sedimentary rock, are a must for history fan.

CERAMICS MUSEUM

The art of mondaines ceramics dates back to the Renaissance. In 1990 was born a important pottery laboratory called Piazza d’Incontro. This laboratory emphasizes both the manual and socialization activities, giving importance to the culture and feelings, where it’s important the contribution of each person. \r\nWith ceramics everyone can express their creativity. The transformations of the paintings are always different and they’re so therapeutic for the psyche. The manipulation is an important vehicle for developing the skills of each child, and it offers a new vision of creativity. You can minupulate the natural material, create it, realize your ideas and feel the third dimension. You can make make everything touching, playing and living the essence of the clay. The expressive activity gives more rewarding and fascinating sensations. Each project is realized by various phases of work. The first step is the design, the second the forging. This is followed by the decoration and cooking. In this creative process childrens learn different techniques and the gradually became very artists. The methodical work creates a reassuring context and every child can freely express himself.

ST. CHIARA AND BERNARDINO’S CHURCH

The church was built in 1624, the same year of the colistered buildind. The construction took place thanks to the testament of Bernardino Carboni. The structure incorporates an hospital for pilgrims from the late thirteenth century, which is a fresco representing the Madonna and evident traces of the fourteenth century architecture in the lower part of the building.

 

THE CHURCH OF THE TAVOLLO BLESSED VIRGIN

The building was finished in 1589 thanks to the devotion of the mondaines. It was a sanctuary till the first decade of the last century. The front of the sixteenth bulding was composed of a small porch with three arches and two towers.

 

St. BIAGIO FROM LAURETO’S CHURCH

This big church was restored and enlarged in 1778 and it’s situated next to a rectory. There’s a beautiful seventeenth belfry and the altarpiece with saints and crucifixion.

 

CSt. MICHELE ARCANGELO’S CHURCH

The church was built on an ancient roman temple dedicated to Diana, goddess of the hunt. Nowadays we don’t have anything about this old temple. The first notices about the church are from the thirtheenth century, just when the building was restructured. It contains many pictures and an important art gallery, including paintings by Giorgio Picchi, Antonio Pomarancio and Giuseppe Soleri Brancaleoni.

 

St. PAOLO FROM MONTESPINO’S CHURCH

This church was built in 1734, the original floor is still intact. Today the area of the church includes also the rest of an ancient church, that one of St. Cristoforo from Canneto. Into the church of St. Paolo there’s an altar of the eighteenth century and a seventeenth famous picture.

 

St. APOLLINARE’S CHURCH

It’s the oldest church in Mondaino. It’s located next to slope of the Fosso Della Valmala. The earliest notices of this bulding are from the late fourteenth century. It’s written that this church belonged to the territory of S. Laudizio. Into this structure there’s a font supported by a hexagonal column and an altar of stone.

 

CARNEVALI’S PALACE

This seventeenth bulding is located in Roma Street. Into the palace has also stayed the composer Pietro Mascagni, during his courtesy visits to the owners of the building.

 

FORLANI’S PALACE

Neoclassical building built in 1850 by Joseph Cosci. The interior of the palace has many important rooms painted by Romolo Liverani Faenza.

 

FORLANI-ROMANI’S PALACE

The front of the palace is dated to the early seventeenth century, but the rest of building is older than the front of it. Into the palace there’s a garden, a well and an arc of the fourteenth century. There’s also an interesting underground complex with great rooms carved in stones. One of the rooms has a fantastic domed roof.

 

RENZI’S PALACE

It’s the habitation of Elisabetta Renzi, founder of the religious school “Maestre Pie dell’Addolorata”. It has many rooms painted with biblical scenes from the Old Testamen by Romolo Liverani.

 

PIAZZA D’INCONTRO WORKSHOP

The laboratory is managed by the “Piccola Cooperativa Sociale Cà Santino” from Montefiore Conca in collaboration with the city administration of Mondaino and the Ausl of Rimini, since June, 2000. In this workshop students spend many artistic experiences. These organizations allow students to be able to realize a wide range of cultural experiences. All families are increasingly satisfied with the courses offered by the laboratory.

 

THE WEDNESDAY MARKET

The origins of the market are very ancient. Into the malatestian fortress there’s also represented a picture of 1700 by an unknown author. For over fifty years, every Wednesday there’s a market town, one of the most important market of the Valle Del Conca.

 

ARBORETUM EXPERIMENTAL THEATRE

Located in a very big natural park, since 1998 there’s a environmental education project, where people study music, dancing, writing and acting. The arboretum offers hospitality for creative residencies and proposes a series of very interesting laboratory. Since 2004 there is a third house for learning and experimentation. The arboretum is an important attraction point for every kind of teaching and it give importance to creativity, ambient and entertainment. It’s also an importan tool for raising awareness of current environmental issues and sustainable delopment of behavior.
